Our Story

Lee and Beth Schafer founded Inspirational Family Radio in May, 1983. Lee’s interest in radio and electronics began early in his life. He built his first radio at age seven, and earned his amateur radio license when he was ten years old. He pursued his love and learning of radio by achieving his First Class License while in college.

After purchasing KSPD790 AM in 1983, they bought KBXL 94.1FM in 1989. Lee realized his dream and passion for radio by working with his family and many terrific employees. His passion for radio was superseded only by his love for God and for his family. He realized radio was a tool to spread the Gospel and wanted to continue that goal by persevering even when the path of financial expediency would have been to sell the stations.

On September 9, 2008, God called Lee into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ. Beth continues to lead the organization as it continues to be part of God’s transforming power in the lives of people.
